The check drive (Kontrollfahrt) is a practical test in which you show that you can drive safely according to Swiss traffic rules. It is required to exchange your foreign driving licence for a Swiss licence. The focus is on:

Important to know: Under Swiss law the check drive cannot be repeated. If you fail, your foreign driving licence is no longer recognised and you have to start the whole Swiss licence process again (theory, traffic course, practical test). Serious preparation is therefore not a luxury, but the safe basis for your first and only attempt.
Who it is for
You may need a check drive if:

your foreign driving licence is from a country that is not exempt.
2
you have lived in Switzerland for more than 12 months and have not yet exchanged your licence.
3
your licence has to be checked additionally by the Swiss authorities.
Holders of an EU/EFTA driving licence are exempt from the check drive.
